The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District and the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Ely Ranger District remind the public that permits are required when cutting wood on public and Forest Service lands, whether it be for personal use or commercial resale. Permits may be obtained at each of the agencies respective offices. The recreating public is also reminded to keep all motorized travel on existing roads and trails.The BLM Ely District and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Ely Ranger District are coordinating law enforcement efforts to better protect the public lands and resources, per an interagency Memorandum of Understanding signed in 1994 between the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture that allows BLM and Forest Service law enforcement officers to enforce each agency’s regulations on specific lands managed by the agencies where a violation is observed.
