WASHOE VALLEY, Nev. – Washoe Lake State Park is offering a variety of events and hikes in May. There will be a full moon hike, a Celebrate Washoe Valley Day, and a moderate hike through the sand dunes. Participants will learn about the natural and cultural history of the park and surrounding area. May 3: Full Moon Hike – North Ramp Sand Dunes This will be a moderate, two-mile, round-trip hike in the sand. WHEN: Sunday, May 3, 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. WHERE: Meet at North Boat Ramp Equestrian Area. Pass the park’s main entrance, and turn left onto Douglas, turn right on Lakeshore Drive, and make an immediate left turn to access the north entrance to, Washoe Lake. The Equestrian entrance is on the left. CONTACT: Kim Zuch, 775-687-4319, washoelake@hdiss.net May 16: Celebrate Washoe Valley Learn about Washoe Valley’s unique qualities and mingle with local residents and businesses. This event is sponsored by the Washoe Valley Alliance. Food will be available for purchase. WHEN: Saturday, May 16, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. WHERE: Meet at the Group Use Area, turn left past the fee booth, and it will be the 1st and 2nd parking lots on the right. COST: This event is free to the public, and park entrance fees are waived for this event only. CONTACT: Kim Zuch, 775-687-4319, washoelake@hdiss.net May 17: Dune Trek/Beach Stroll This is a moderate, 2.5 mile, round-trip hike in the sand. Dogs are allowed on leash. WHEN: Sunday, May 17, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. WHERE: Meet at the Equestrian parking lot, near the pavilion, turn right past the fee booth, go pass the campground to the gravel parking lot. CONTACT: Kim Zuch, 775-687-4319, washoelake@hdiss.net All events are open to the public and free of charge; however, there is an entrance fee into the park of $7 per vehicle (cash or check). Nevada residents receive a $2 discount. Program schedules are subject to change due to weather and staffing. When going on any hike, please be sure to bring plenty of water and wear appropriate footwear. Washoe State Park is located at 4855 Eastlake Boulevard (Take the Eastlake Boulevard Exit #44 from I-580).
