Hands-on workshop to feature Northern Nevada weed-control methods
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) will host a spring weed identification session Wednesday, April 11 from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Washoe County Extension Office at 4955 Energy Way in Reno. The hands-on, one-hour course—presented by Water Quality Education Specialist Sue Donaldson as part of the Green Industry Continuing Education Series (GICES)—will feature practical methods for identifying and controlling invasive Northern Nevada weeds.
"It’s really difficult to efficiently manage weeds when you can’t identify them early in the season," Donaldson said. "We’ll bring in some plant samples and teach basic identification and management strategies for these weeds."
Interested Nevada gardeners can come get their hands dirty at the Extension office, or watch the presentation live at the Carson City office at 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 15 via telecast. To enroll for free, contact Ashley Andrews at (775) 784-4848 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Continuing Education Units are available for attendees. It’s the third of three GICES classes featured in April, following a first-detector training seminar that took place Monday April 2 and a Post Caughlin and Washoe Fire Update on Bark Beetles Saturday, April 7.
All GICES sessions are one-hour long and jam packed with useful information for Nevada landscapers. The courses are designed for new industry workers, those looking to work in the industry, and for existing industry professionals looking for refresher courses.
