Saturday Events at Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Come down and join Park Rangers at the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort and attend one of our Saturday programs.

Legends of the Old Spanish Trail
Meet a ranger as he explains the significance of the Old Spanish Trail Marker at the fort.  Hear stories about the legendary figure Pegleg Smith as well as the rough journey the pioneers took to get into the Las Vegas Valley. 
WHEN: Saturday, February 21, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
WHERE: Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park, 500 E Washington Ave. Las Vegas.
COST: $1 per person.

Dutch Oven Cooking Demonstration
Cast iron cookware was considered one of the most valuable tools a pioneer could have. Come watch the old fort rangers cook up a small meal the way the pioneers did. Free samples for all while they last. 
WHEN: Saturday, March 7, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
WHERE: Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park, 500 E Washington Ave. Las Vegas.
COST: $1 per person.

Pioneer Obstacle Course
How fast can you rope a cow, jump over a hay bale and shoot a turkey? Come test your pioneer skills in the obstacle course on the fort grounds. Everyone who makes it through receives a prize!                                  
WHEN: Saturday, March 14, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.        
WHERE: Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park, 500 E Washington Ave. Las Vegas.
COST: $1 per person.

Old Fort History Tour
Join fort staff for a guided tour of the Museum and Fort grounds. All ages welcome.
WHEN: Saturday, March 21, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.        
WHERE: Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park, 500 E Washington Ave. Las Vegas.
COST: $1 per person.

Old Fort Mineral and Gem Dig
Learn about native Nevada rocks and minerals while digging around the fort to find samples of your own. All ages welcome. A limited amount of tools will be available on a first come first serve basis.
WHEN: Saturday, March 28, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
WHERE: Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park, 500 E Washington Ave. Las Vegas.
COST: $1 per person.
