The Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park is hosting an array of fun, interactive events for the entire family throughout the month of October. All events are open to the public and free of charge. The park is located at 500 E. Washington Ave. in Las Vegas.
October 4: Petroglyph Children’s Activity
Learn about Native American rock art. These images of the past are some of the earliest forms of human art. Each participant will have the opportunity to make their own petroglyph using supplies provided.
WHEN: Saturday, October 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
October 8: Farmers Market at the Old Fort – Buy Local Eat Fresh
Cowboy Trail Farms will be at the Old Fort with a variety of organic produce, farm fresh eggs, herbs, flowers, recipes, and crafts for the kids. A vertical garden class will be offered as well. The class costs $5.00.
WHEN: Wednesday, October 8 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
October 11: Build your own Dreamcatcher
Keep bad dreams away by making your own Dreamcatcher, a traditional Native American craftwork decorated with feathers and beads. Supplies will be provided and all ages are welcome.
WHEN: Saturday, October 11 from 10:00 a.m. to noon
October 25: Nevadaween
Come join us for our annual blowout bash as we celebrate both Halloween and Nevada’s 150th Birthday. Activities include: a pumpkin painting contest, costume contest, scavenger hunt, cookie decorating, candle making, bandana and bonnet making, duck race and Soup Cook-Off. Cake will be served to celebrate Nevada’s 150th birthday. The Las Vegas Fiber Arts Guild we be on hand spinning and weaving and the Southern Nevada Gem and Mineral Society will be display rocks and minerals that glow in the dark.
