Each year the IISE announces a list of the Top 10 New Species for the preceding calendar year. The species for 2011 are:
Darwin's Bark Spider (Caerostris darwini), Bioluminescent Mushroom (Mycena luxaeterna), Bacterium (Halomonas titanicae), Monitor Lizard (Varanus bitatawa), Pollinating Cricket (Glomeremus orchidophilus), Duiker (Philantomba walteri), Leech (Tyrannobdella rex), Underwater Mushroom (Psathyrella aquatica), Jumping Cockroach (Saltoblattella montistabularis), and Pancake Batfish (Halieutichthys intermedius).
