Ely BLM Seeks Public Input on Cave Management Plan

3/18/2015

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is asking the public to provide input on caves and related usage to help identify resource issues and aid in the development of a districtwide Cave Management Plan.  The deadline to provide input is Monday, April 20, 2015.

The BLM has scheduled two public meetings in Nevada, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Dates and locations are:

• Wednesday, April 1, BLM Caliente Field Office, 1400 S. Front Street, Caliente
• Thursday, April 2, BLM Ely District Office, 702 North Industrial Way, Ely

The proposed plan would provide BLM management direction on district-administered caves and would include site-specific actions, such as regulating visitation and cave restoration, to protect biological, cultural and other resource values for this and future generations.

Interested individuals should address all written comments to the BLM Ely District Office, HC 33 Box 33500, Ely, NV 89301 Attn: Emily Simpson.  Before including your address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, you should be aware that your entire comment – including your personal identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time.  While you can ask us in your comment to withhold your personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.

For more information or to be placed on the mailing list, contact Emily Simpson, BLM Ely District wilderness planner, at (775) 289-1832 or esimpson@blm.gov
