Come learn the art of Dutch oven cooking and give your taste buds a thrill. Celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Nevada’s Statehood with a Dutch oven competition that will include prizes. Individuals and teams may enter dishes in more than one category. Entries fall under one of four main categories or one special category to celebrate Nevada’s 150th Anniversary: bread product, main course (meat), vegetable side-dish, dessert, and 150th anniversary category – 1860s style cooking all natural ingredients; no boxed/pre-made ingredients.
The winner will be invited to compete in the statewide Dutch oven cook-off finale, held on September 20 at Cathedral Gorge State Park, where the grand prize will include a silver Nevada Sesquicentennial 150th Medallion. WHAT: Dutch Oven Cook-off Competition. WHEN: Saturday, May 10 from noon to 5p.m. WHERE: Group use area at 6375 State Highway 159 in Blue Diamond, Nevada which is 15 miles west of Las Vegas, via Blue Diamond Road, in the Red Rock Canyon area. WHO: The contest is open to individual or group cook/teams. Anyone under 16 entering individually must have a parent or guardian’s signature; teams such as Boy Scout troops will be covered by their official Boy Scout Trip Permit. COST: $5 for each item entered, with unlimited entries. The per vehicle entrance fee is $7 for residents and $9 for non-residents.
