BLM Transfers Engines to Eureka County Nevada and Gooding, Idaho

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Elko District Office, transferred to Eureka County Nevada and Gooding, Idaho two 900-gallon wildland fire engines to aid in local wildland fire-fighting efforts.  Transfers took place in April, in preparation for fire season.

Once an engine has so many hours on it, BLM can surplus the engine through General Service Administration (GSA). GSA then offers the engine to local fire departments at a reduced rate.

“The engines that go up for sale still have use and it’s a great way to enhance firefighter safety and strengthen fire protection capabilities. Safe and effective fire suppression in the wildland urban interface demands close coordination among local, state, tribal, and federal firefighting resources” Dylan Rader, BLM Elko District Assistant Fire Management Officer.

“Buying this 2002 Freightliner from BLM through GSA is a great way for us to update our engines; this engine will replace a 1986 model. Thanks to BLM and General Service Admiration (GSA), this has been an extremely smooth purchase,” Brandon Covey, Chief, Gooding Fire Dept.

“This engine will increase the safety of our firefighters as well as serve the Eureka County well for many years,” Ron Damele, Director, Eureka County Nevada Public Works.
