Carson City, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will meet with the Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC) on August 28, 2014. The meeting will be held at Hycoft Mine, 54980 Jungo Road (approximately 54 miles west of Winnemucca), from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The meeting will continue at Black Rock Station, 200 Transfer Road in Gerlach, Nevada, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
The RAC advises and makes recommendations to the BLM on the management of public lands. Discussion items will include Winnemucca and Carson City District’s reports, Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act, and the BLM recreation permit process. This meeting will include a public comment period from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m.
The Federal Land Policy and Management Act direct the Secretary of the Interior to involve the public in planning and discussion of issues related to management of BLM-administered public lands. The Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin RAC is one of three such councils in Nevada that accommodates this community participation directive. Represented on the council are commercial and non-commercial users that include elected officials and state agencies, environmental, livestock, mining, and wild horse and burro interests.
