Ely – The Lincoln County Archaeological Initiative receives funding from the Lincoln County Lands Act of 2000 and Lincoln County Conservation, Recreation, and Development Act of 2004, which authorize the use of revenues from the sale of public lands identified for disposal by the Acts and Ely Resource Management Plan. The Acts created a special account in which 85 percent of the revenues from the land sales are deposited. Funds in the special account may be used for a number of activities, including the inventory, evaluation, protection and management of unique archaeological resources in Lincoln County. The remaining funds are distributed to the State of Nevada (5 percent) and Lincoln County (10 percent).
Each year the Bureau of Land Management develops priorities for the current round of proposals. The BLM Ely District is asking the public to review and comment on the Lincoln County Archaeological Initiative (LCAI) Round 8 draft priorities. Comments will be accepted through Friday, June 20, 2014. The draft priorities are:
• Public Outreach and Educational Program Development for Archaeological Resources within Lincoln County, Nevada
• Museum Interpretation of the Prehistory and History of Lincoln County
• Innovative Technology and Techniques in the Preservation of Historic Properties
The public is also asked to provide comments on the draft priorities or recommend priorities they would like to see included that are not addressed. Please include sufficient information to identify the type of archaeological resource and/or the type of preservation activity(s) necessary.
Interested individuals should address all written comments to the BLM Ely District Office, HC 33 Box 33500, Ely, NV 89301, Attn: Carol Bass or fax or email them to (775) 289-1910 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Before including your address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, you should be aware that your entire comment – including your personal identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time. While you can ask us in your comment to withhold your personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
