BLM: BLM Seeks Public Comment on Sale of Parcel for Water Treatment Facility in Goldfield

3/6/2012

A Notice of Realty Action announcing the proposed direct sale of a 5-acre parcel of public land in Goldfield, Nev., was published in the Federal Register on March 5, 2012. The notice opens a 45-day public comment period that will close on April 19, 2012.

Esmeralda County seeks to purchase the parcel by direct sale to be used as the permanent site of their water treatment facility. The proposed sale site has been used by the county since 1981 as a water storage and distribution facility under a BLM-issued right-of-way. The site would be used to mitigate the current high levels of arsenic found in the Goldfield water supply to bring it into compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The public land would not be offered for sale until at least 60 days from the publication of this notice and at the appraised market value of $15,500.

The proposed sale is under the provisions under the authority of Section 203 and 209 of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 as amended (FLPMA), 43 U.S.C. 1713 and 1719, respectively, and mineral conveyance regulations at 43 CFR 2710 and 2720 and the 1997 Tonopah Resource Management Plan.

Written comments on the proposed direct sale should be mailed to: Thomas J. Seley, Field Manager, BLM Tonopah Field Office, 1553 S. Main Street, P.O. Box 911, Tonopah, Nevada 89049. Comments will be made available to the public; therefore, personal identifying information such as addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses may be withheld.

For information about the proposed sale, or to request a copy of the Notice of Realty Action, please contact Alan Buehler, Supervisory Geologist, at 775-482-7800.
