The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will meet with the Mojave-Southern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC) three times in Nevada in fiscal year 2012: March 16, in Las Vegas; July 19-20, in Ely; and Sept. 21, in Las Vegas. All meetings are open to the public. The RAC advises and makes recommendations to the BLM on public land management. Discussion items will include, but are not limited to, renewable energy development and transmission, the greater sage-grouse, and BLM Battle Mountain and Southern Nevada district resource management plans. Meeting times will be made public prior to each meeting. Each meeting will include a general public comment period that will be listed in the final meeting agenda that will be available two weeks prior to each meeting.
The March 16 meeting will be held at the BLM Southern Nevada District Office in Las Vegas, the July 19-20 meeting will be held at the BLM Ely District Office in Ely, and the Sept. 21 meeting will be held at the BLM Southern Nevada District Office in Las Vegas. The Federal Land Policy and Management Act directs the Secretary of the Interior to involve the public in planning and discussion of issues related to management of BLM-administered public lands. The Mojave-Southern Great Basin RAC is one of three such councils in Nevada that accommodates this community participation directive. Represented on the council are commercial and non-commercial users that include elected officials and state agencies, environmental, livestock, mining, Native American, and wild horse and burro. For more information, contact Hillerie Patton, BLM Southern Nevada District Office, (702) 515-5046 or hpatton@blm.gov.
