April Events at Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park

Immerse yourself in cultural and natural history at the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park. Join park rangers for a variety of Saturday events through the month of April, including adobe brick making, a mineral and gem dig, a historic tea party, a pond’s eye view of the fort’s critters and a fort history tour.

April 5: Adobe Brick Making Demonstration
Learn how to build adobe bricks just like the pioneers did, using dirt, sand, dried vegetation and water.
WHEN: Saturday, April 5 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

April 12: Old Fort Mineral and Gem Dig
Go on a real life treasure hunt, digging and sifting through the fort’s sand pit and mine your own minerals!
WHEN: Saturday, April 12 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

April 12: Helen J. Stewart Birthday Tea
Have tea with the first lady of Las Vegas at the oldest social gathering place in southern Nevada. Join Dr. Linda Miller, author of the book Early Las Vegas, as she portrays Helen J. Stewart in celebration of her 160th birthday. After a book signing Dr. Miller will host a Victorian tea party with birthday cake. Complimentary tea etiquette lessons will be provided.
WHEN: Saturday, April 12 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

April 19: Dragonflies, Birds and Water Bugs, Oh My!
Learn about the critters that call the Old Fort pond home.
WHEN: Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

April 26: Old Fort History Tour
Join fort staff for a guided tour of the museum and fort grounds.
WHEN: Saturday, April 26 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. 

All programs are open to the public, all ages welcome. The Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort is located in downtown Las Vegas, at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and East Washington Avenue.
